Depression

Lack of motivation? Feeling foggy and exhausted? Losing interest in friends, family and work? Are you engaging in unhealthy habits like not eating or not sleeping, or even sleeping and eating every chance you get? Depression and anxiety often go hand in hand and 16 million adults over 18 suffer from depression. Negative thought patterns and unexpressed emotions developed at some point in early life are the main cause of depression. Depression can be a result of anxiety and feelings of hopelessness. Often it can be triggered by external causes such as death of a loved one, loss of a job or the end of a relationship by creating anxiety and feelings of isolation. Depression can cause mental paralysis. This paralysis creates a mental rationale for food, drug, alcohol, technology, sex addictions or isolation in order to manage the negative feelings that are not being confronted. These behaviors feed the depression making it stronger thereby making this a viscious cycle. Negative thought patterns are usually developed at a young age and must be challenged once recognized in order to change. Happiness is a state of mind that can lead to increased energy, better relationships and a more optimistic attitude. I will use CBT and psychoanalysis as methods of dispelling old beliefs and thought patterns that contribute to fear and dread, while providing motivation to shifting perceptions and beliefs to a more positive and optimistic approach to life. Remember that depression is not a sign of failure or weakness and it is very treatable.
