What Is Concierge Therapy?
Concierge Therapy is a private-pay or insurance-based monthly subscription to guaranteed, but not required, weekly therapy sessions. Fees give you access to guaranteed appointments within five days of request, secure between-session messaging with me within defined boundaries, a flexible no-charge cancellation policy, and care coordination with other providers or family members with your written consent. Concierge clients enjoy priority service unlike clients in larger mental health practices.
Our work together is driven by an expectation of longer-term, preventive care. We will work at a pace and in a way that is focused on individualized results rather than the historically traditional mirroring and often meandering prescribed worksheets with impersonal objectives. We will reject trendy, aimless, ruminating, blaming, and excusing methods. You will have direct access to me via secured messaging and email within certain limits — no gatekeeper staff as in larger mental health practices, and no wait times for appointments.
Concierge Therapy gives you greater freedom to work on all aspects of personal or professional long-term growth, relationships, high-stress life transitions, or self-exploration. It is a long-term, therapy-first approach unlike psychiatry, which focuses on short-term medication treatment. We will not solely focus on a medical diagnosis, which is required for insurance reimbursement. While medication can help in appropriate situations — and a referral can be made if needed — my approach believes that mental wellness is best achieved by applying mindfulness, self-reflection, and self-awareness to confront and overcome issues through building your own inner strength, rather than relying on the crutch that medication ultimately becomes while assuming the risks and side effects. Studies have revealed that therapy is far more successful long-term than medication.
Private Pay Concierge Therapy
Private pay Concierge Therapy is for people who value discretion, consistency, priority, accessibility, and depth. Private pay offers priority service and freedom from insurance limitations. Similar to other professional services such as legal or financial counsel, private-pay therapy avoids the insurance model and provides a higher level of service and discretion. Private pay offers direct access to your clinician without having to go through staff members as in larger mental health practices, ensuring client confidentiality and treatment guided by your needs instead of insurance requirements.
As a 25-year clinician, private pay protects the quality of my work, my ability to be discretionary, and my clinical independence. I am able to limit my practice to ensure meaningful relationships, better communication, deeper trust, and better outcomes. Care is guided by what’s clinically appropriate — not by insurance requirements. There is no pressure to label, rush, or justify care. For you, it is a specialized professional service that supports sustainability, presence, and quality care.
Who Should Choose Private Pay?
Private pay Concierge Therapy is for people who want:
- Priority scheduling
- Flexible session length
- No cancellation fees
- No insurance involvement
- No copayments or deductibles
It is for people who have:
- Busy and unpredictable schedules
- High deductibles
- Potential coverage changes
- Insurance with specific network requirements
Private pay is for those who understand the value of real privacy — not just privacy as defined by HIPAA and insurance contracts, which most all require:
- Medical necessity and justification for treatment
- Diagnostic labeling
- Prescribed generic treatments
- Authorizations or referrals
- Insurance database sharing your mental health care
- Session limits
- Potential for denied claims
While I do not bill insurance, I am happy to provide a superbill if you have out-of-network benefits.
Who Should Choose Hybrid Insurance?
Hybrid Concierge Therapy is for people who want:
- No copayments
- No cancellation fees
- Affordability
Hybrid is for people who have:
- Reliable insurance
- Economic concerns
- Short-term goals
- No discretionary concerns
If you need help deciding, I can help you determine whether private pay makes sense for you, compare insurance to private pay based on your coverage, and figure out how to use out-of-network benefits to reduce cost.
What to Expect in Your First Session
Typically, I will have you complete a questionnaire in advance to learn about your mental health history, any medications, and your goals for therapy. When we meet, I will also ask you to describe in your own words how you see therapy, what your successes in therapy have been, and what the shortfalls have been — leading to how I can be of help to you now.
We will cover any previous therapy or medical attention to mental health, as well as focusing on previous goals accomplished and present-day goals you are still wanting to address. We focus on the here and now and how your unique history and experience has contributed to your life — for better or worse.
